One evening each month, special Quiet Hours are offered for adults and children with disabilities or sensory sensitivity who would like to experience Lightscape without the usual high volume of people. Individuals who will be accompanied by personal care assistants may contact customer service for accommodation. There are some lighting sequences that have flashing lights contained within them however, there is no strobe lighting. The trail paths are wheelchair accessible. Is it accessible to individuals with disabilities? There are points along the trail where visitors can spread out, grab a treat or hot drink, or stop for great photo ops. The organization Friends of Nachsa Grasslands has posted three short videos of the baby bison on YouTube.Visitors to Lightscape make their way along a winding trail through BBG’s landscape, awash in artistic lighting design. I especially want to see the bison herd at Nachusa Grasslands. The exhibit had me listing all the nearly prairies so that I could see them in person. "Picturing the Prairie" - an exhibit of paintings by Philip Juras runs till September 12.
LIGHTSCAPE BOTANIC GARDEN TICKETS FREE
There are still a couple of free Tuesday morning concerts this month - 10:00 a.m., no picnicking. The carving is done by artists from New York-based company Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns - whose work has been shown all over the country.
Member sales on August 23 nonmember sales begin August 27.
I still have photos on my phone of some of the more spectacular creations from earlier Nights. The big news for August is that tickets will go on sale for Night of 1,000 Jack-O'-Lanterns - a rain-or-shine event that features amazing hand-carved pumpkins.
Parking does sell out on weekends, so register early. Nonmembers must still preregister for timed entry.
